liftus + palmers study of leading questions can show how much someone can be influenced by them. this means the police can make an effeort to avoid asking them to get the best eyewitness accounts. psychologists can appear in court

the stimulus used in loftus + palmers study wasn't real. it was a tv clip of a crash. in an actual crash there is more stress on the situation = this could affect EWT (bcos emotions can have an effect on memory) = means that it reduces the validity

psychologists found that younger people recall events better than older people do. the ages groups of 18-25 + 35-45 were more accurate than 55-78. all groups were more accurate when identifying people in their own age group (own age bias)

lab studies such as EWT can be affacted by demand characteristcs. this is bcos the person may give the answer based on what they think will be helpful to the researcher (eg "did you see any broken glass?" yes is the obvious answer)
