A common sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. It's a chronic condition -> virus remains in the body and can become active again.

How would you treat the primary infection of herpes
Taking a course of antiviral tablets (5 times a day) the patient will need to take the tablets for at least 5 days or longer if the symptoms persist. An anaesthetic cream will be used for the sores and they may take paracetamol for pain relief

Avoiding having sex, kissing and sharing sex toys; always wearing a condom, having your partner tested and avoiding sharing towels and flannels.
