John Morton
A lawyer and churchman, Morton helped Henry bring the Church under his influence. He was promoted to the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1486 and became a cardinal in 1493.

Sir Reginald Bray
Helped Henry raise funds for the Battle of Bosworth. He became Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and led the Council Learned in Law. He was the king's chief executive.

Sir Richard Empson
Advised Henry from 1494. Chair of the Council Learned. Responsible for increasing the king's finances with Dudley. They did this through bonds, fines and debt collections.

Edmund Dudley
Replaced Bray after his death. Helped Empson extort taxes and raise money for the king. They did this through bonds, fines and debt collections.

Lord Thomas Stanley
His mother's husband, he gave his younger brother, William, command of his troops at the Battle of Bosworth and helped Henry win. He was given the title of High Constable of England among others.

Sir William Stanley
Helped Henry win at the Battle of Bosworth. Promoted to Lord Chamberlain. He presided over the politics of England and was one of Henry's most trusted position. Betrayed Henry by giving information to Perkin Warbeck.

Justices of the Peace
Responsible for maintaining law and order in the countryside. Unpaid position, done out of either duty or hope of advancement. Collected money through taxes and fines etc.
