what is the difference between heat and temperature
temperature is the measure of how hot or clod something is and heat is the measure of energy given out
1 of 10
what is expansion
the atoms vibrate more and push each over further apart
2 of 10
what uses are there for expansion
bridges, joints ect
3 of 10
what allowances are taken for expansion and conduction
telegraph wires, oven shelves
4 of 10
what is conduction
the heat energy travels from left to right the atoms at the hot end vibrate more and cause there neighbours to vibrate more
5 of 10
explain heldrcc
the air is heated and expands making it less dense and rises more air will take its place causing convection currents
6 of 10
explain radiation
heat radiation travels as a wave and does need particles. it can travel through space and so is the method by which energy reaches us from the sun
7 of 10
what are good absorbers
dark surfaces
8 of 10
how does a vacuum flask work
the inner wall are a shiny surface so that they will reflect heat back into the flask
9 of 10
name 3 this which keep heat inside a house
curtains, double glazing, carpets
