heat changes

?
What is displacement?
It occurs when a more reactive element takes the place of a less reactive element in a compound. A temperature increase also occurs.
1 of 15
What is an everyday use of an exothermic reaction?
Hand warmers: Reusable, click disc, stays active for 30 mins-2hrs, put in boiling water to deactivate. Disposable, shake to activate, lasts 8hrs and you can't use it again.
2 of 15
What is sherbet?
A mixture of citric acid and baking powder.
3 of 15
Explain the dissolving method?
Some compounds take in energy from the water in order to break up and dissolve.
4 of 15
What is Thermal Decomposition
The breaking down of a compound using heat. This type of reaction takes in heat energy and breaks down a compound.
5 of 15
What is photosynthesis?
When plants take in energy from the sun and convert it in to chemical energy.
6 of 15
Explain cooking and baking as endothermic processes
The ingredients take in energy from the pan or oven and the object is made.
7 of 15
Example of an everyday endothermic reaction
Ice packs
8 of 15
What happens when substances change state?
They either lose or gain heat energy from the surroundings. As they lose energy the particles slow down and come closer together. As they gain energy, the particles move fast and spread further apart.
9 of 15
Endothermic states
Melting to evaporating
10 of 15
Exothermic states
Condensing to freezing
11 of 15
When do energy changes occur?
In all chemical reactions, usually in the form of heat.
12 of 15
What does changing state involve?
Heat transfer to or from the surroundings
13 of 15
What do you do when drawing graphs?
Independent variable- x axis, Dependent variable- y axis and draw a line of best fit ignoring anomalous results
14 of 15
What do you do when carrying out an investigation?
Ensure it's a fair test
