What is coronary heart disease?
A term that describes what occurs when the heart's blood supply is blocked interrupted by buildup of fatty substances in the coronary arteries.

The build up of fatty deposits (atheroma)

What can fatty deposits also be called?
Atheroma

What can atherosclerosis lead to?
This can lead to chest pains which are also known as angina and can lead to a heart attack.

Why are plaques/atheromas so dangerous?
The plaques cause affected arteries to harden and narrow which can be dangerous for 2 reasons, restricted blood flows lead to organs damaged and if plaques rupture this could cause a heart attack or stroke.

What lifestyle habits can cause atherosclerosis?
Smoking, High cholesterol, hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes.

What can increase the risk of coronary heart disease?
Smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol, being physically inactive, being overweight or obese, family history of heart disease, ethnic background, gender (men are more at risk of developing it at a younger age than men) and age.
