What is the movement of the head controlled by?
it is controlled by muscles in the neck.

Muscles in the neck need.....
time to grow and develop. the baby also needs to learn how to use these muscles.

Newborn
when the baby is picked up or lifted into a sitting position the head falls backwards. this is why the head must always be supported.

3 months
baby is beginning to hold its head and there is much less lag. although when the baby is held upright head it liable to wobble.

6 months
baby has complete head control and is able to lift its head when lying on its back.
