How did pasteur prove that microbes caused disease?
heated broth in 2 flasks. One had curved neck so microbes settled on the loop, one had open neck so microbes could get to the broth. This proved it was microbes not air that caused the broth to go off.

What is pasteurisation and why is it preferable to sterilising when concerning substances such as milk?
An antiseptic technique: involves heating something up to about 70 degrees-c and then cooling it. This kills off most harmful germs. It's used to treat raw milk instead of sterilising because it doesn't use such high temps. or kill off vitamins

How can Resazurin Dye be used to investigate microorganism growth?
Resauzurin dye is sensitive to oxygen. When there's lots of oxygen it is blue, as the oxgen decreases the colour goes from pink, to colourless. Microorganisms use up oxgen when they respire, the more there are the moe oxygen they use up.

Give an example of an experiment
Three test tubes of milk. Mix some Resazurin dye in all of them. Store all three at different temps. and then check at intervals. Record the colour.
