What effect does Symmetrical Balance have on a document?
A symmetrical document can look more formal and organised, and is much easier to read and follow.

What effect does Asymmetrical Balance have on a document?
Asymmetrical documents can look quite chaotic, have an unusual look, less formal and more modern.

What effect does Contrast have on a document?
Contrast occurs when two design elements are different. It emphasises what is importand and directs the readers eye. It makes a page more interesting and stand out more.

What effect does Proportion have on a document?
Proportion is the scale of elements in relation to one another. Larger elements have a stronger visual impact than smaller ones.

What effect does Rhythm have on a document?
The rhythm of a page directs the reader from one element to the next, and makes the document clearer and easier to read.

What effect does White Space have on a document?
White space is the absence of text and graphics (it does not have to be white). It makes the document less cramped confusing or overwhelming.

What effect does Proximity have on a document?
Proximity creates a bond between elements on a page. Items relating to each other should be grouped together. This helps organise information, reduce clutter and give the reader clear structure.
