The German Empire was formed in 1871. Germany went to war in 1914.

Some of the reasons for the Golden Age were the USA providing financial aid and the Weimar Republic being accepted into the League of Nations. Hyperinflation was earlier, and the Wall Street Crash was a problem for the Republic.
