What are destructive plate margins ?
Where convection currents in the mantle cause the plates to move together. If one is oceanic and the other continental then the oceanic, less dense plate will be subducted.
1 of 6
What are collision plate boundary's ?
When 2 continental plates meet each other they collide and buckle instead of subducting.
2 of 6
What is a constructive plate margin?
When plates move apart, cracks and fractures form between the plates where there is no solid crust. Magma forces its way into the cracks and makes its way to the surface to form volcanoes.
3 of 6
What is a Conservative plate Margin?
The plates are sliding past each other in similar directions at slightly different speeds and angles. If they get stuck the build up of pressure will cause them to be released creating earthquakes.
4 of 6
Where do fold mountains, composite volcanoes and ocean trenches occur?
At destructive plate boundary's (fold mountains also occur at collision plate boundaries)
5 of 6
Where do shield volcanoes and mid ocean ridges occur?
At constructive plate boundaries
