Abrasion
This is the process by which the bed and banks are broken down by the rivers loads. The river throws these pebbles against the bed and banks, sometimes at high velocity

Attrition
Material carried by the river collide into each other and so are smoothed and broken down into smaller parts

Solution
This is the chemical action of river water. The acids in the water slowly dissolve the pebbles and the banks.

Where fast-flowing water is forced into cracks, breaking up the river bed and bank over time

As the river erodes laterally to the right side then the left side, it forms large bends, and then horseshoe-like loops called meanders.

Occurs in the upper course of a river in which vertical erosion is the dominant force determining the rivers course.

Animals and plants can wear away rocks

Physical weathering
Caused by physical changes such as changes in temperature, freezing and thawing and the effects of wind, rain and waves

Chemical weathering
– The weathering of rocks by chemicals. Rainwater is naturally slightly acidic as carbon dioxide from the air dissolves in it. Minerals in rocks may react with the rainwater causing it to be weathered.
