What is the definition of HDI?
Human Development Index-Represents the development of life expectancy, education and income per capita.

GDP, GNI Per Capita, Life Expectancy, Birth Rate, Unemployment.

What are the social measures of development?
Population Growth, Life Expectancy, Birth Rate, Infant Mortality, Quality of Life.

What are the limitations of using life expectancy as a measure of development?
Life expectancy is based on an average meaning it is only a rough measure. Additionally, it does not contribute to the measure of quality of life.

What is the development gap and how do you know it exists?
The development gap is the gap between developed countries and undeveloped countries as a consequence of many development factors. We know it exists as we have High Income Countries and Low Income Countries.

What Historical Factors can cause uneven development?
War/Conflict, Colonisation, Access to Aid, Loans, Natural Hazards, Climate, Tourism.

Explain how one Physical Factor can affect uneven development.
Natural Hazards make it hard for countries to develop. Soil erosion and desertification can affect farming yields which affects development.

What physical factors can cause uneven development?
Soil erosion, desertification, climate change, overgrazing and infertile soil. Areas that lack fertile land and natural resources. Areas with Natural Hazards (Haiti).

What are the economic causes of uneven development?
Loss of jobs, Change in the job sectors (People are migrating to the Secondary and Tertiary job sectors), Implementation of TNC's.

How can uneven development affect migration?
Many people want to migrate to NEE's or HIC's away from the LIC's which then helps to widen the development gap.

List the strategies which can be used to reduce the development gap
TNC Investment, Aid, Industrial Development, Intermediate Technology, Fair Trade, Debt Relief, Microfinance Loans, Tourism.

How does Fairtrade help to reduce the development gap?
Fairtrade raises the costs of products in supermarkets so that the people growing and manufacturing the product earn more money than non-fairtrade products.

How can Tourism reduce the development gap? Give an example of a country you have studied.
Tourism allows many people to open small businesses and make profits. Additionally, hotels, flights and other local economies benefit from Tourism. Tunisia is the studied example. Tunisia made major economic progress through tourism.

Nigeria.

How would you describe the location of Nigeria?
Nigeria is in the north of Africa located on the west coast. It is a coastal town which leads into the Gulf of Guinea then into the South Atlantic Ocean.

Give two reasons why Nigeria is globally important.
1. Nigeria provides a massive port and trade pathway for the world.
2. Because of the TNC population in Nigeria, Nigeria provides support for Africa and for the rest of the world.

Describe how Nigeria's industry has changed.
There are rapid advances in technology which are contributing to the economy. The economy is becoming driven by IT and not oil.

What is the definition of TNC's? Give three examples.
TNC's (Trans National Companies) are companies with headquarters and offices located in HIC's and factories located in other countries (LIC's and NEE's).

Give three advantages of TNC's to the host country.
Encourage the local economy to grow, Allows local people to learn new and specialised skills, Contributes to the local government

Give three disadvantages of TNC's to the host country
Poor pay for employees, Poor working conditions for employees, many of the high paying jobs in the host countries are outsourced to other countries.
