How does LATITUDE affect climate? (close to the equator)
Closer to the equator it is warmer as the sun is directly over head meaning there is less atmosphere to pass through and there is a smaller are heated meaning the rays are more concentrated.
1 of 9
How does DISTANCE FROM THE SEA affect climate?
Coast - Cooler in the summer as the sea warms slowly. Warmer in winter as the sea retains the heat from summer. Inland - Warmer in summer as land heats up quickly. Colder in winter as land looses heat rapidly.
2 of 9
How does ALTITUDE affect climate?
Cooler the higher up you go as the air becomes less dense meaning it is less able to retain heat.
3 of 9
How does PREVAILING WINDS affect climate?
The temperature of the wind depends on were it comes from. Cold land = cold wind Warm land = warm wind Cold sea = cool, moist wind Warm sea = warm, moist wind
4 of 9
How does OCEAN CURRENTS affect temperature?
The Gulf stream in the UK results in warmer weather on the west coast and it brings warmer water as it passes. The Atlantic ocean retains heat like a ntural heat reservoir.
5 of 9
How does ASPECT affect temperature?
In the north hemisphere - a north slope is south facing so gets more sun and are also sheltered from northerly winds.
6 of 9
How does CONVECTIONAL RAINFALL affect rainfall?
The ground is warmed in the summer resulting in air near it warming and rising. The rising air then cools and condenses forming clouds, rain and potentially thunder storms.
7 of 9
How does RELIEF RAINFALL affect climate?
Prevailing winds bring warm moist air which os forced to rise over high areas. Here it is cooler so the air condenses and it rains. The air descends, warms, some evapourates and it drys up.

How does LATITUDE affect the climate? (far from the equator)
Further from the equator it is colder as there is more atmosphere to pass through due to the earths curvature, the area heated is larger and the rays are less concentrated.
