Describe Blackpool's tourism industry in early 1900s.
Primarily, only rich people could go to Blackpool and was attracted by the supposed magic properties of the water. A little later on the railway connected to more densely populated areas so it was cheaper for working class to visit as well.

Cheap family package holidays introduced that could guarantee sun and good weather. Blackpools tourist industry declined.

Tourist numbers dropped from 17 million to 11 million/ Some hotels only had 25% occupancy/became popular for stag dos and hen dos meaning families where scared off/seen as tacky and rubbish so crime and poverty increased in Blackpool.

Local council tried to upgrade the facilities eg turned small hotels into holiday flats/More family friendly resorts eg aquamarine/ Upgraded the Blackpool Illuminations/ Tried to build a supercasino but turned down by government.

Not very effective/ Still relies on day trippers&those staying 1/2 nights/ Blackpools 'Pleasure Beach' remains most visited attraction in UK but numbers have fallen from 7 million to 6 million/ Blackpool is too big for small solutions/
