Geography UNIT 1 SECTION A

Name the 2 Types of Natural Hazards categories
Geological Hazards are caused my land and tectonic e.g earthquakes .Metrological Hazards are caused by weather and climate e.g Tropical Storms and extreme weather .
1 of 10
Describe the movement of a destructive plate margin
The destructive plate margin is where 2 plates are margins are where to plates are moving towards each other e.g west coast of South America. The denser plate if forced down into the mantle and destroyed causing volcanos and ocean trenches .
2 of 10
Describe the movement of a constructive plate margin
Constructive plate margins are where two plates are moving away from each other e.g mid Atlantic ridge.Magma rises from the middle to fill the gaps forming a new crust.
3 of 10
Describe the movement of conservative plate margin
Conservative plate margins are where to plates are moving sideways past each other or moving at the same direction but at different speed e.g west coast of USA . A crust isn't created or destroyed.
4 of 10
How are Volcanos formed ?
They are formed at destructive plate margins when the oceanic plate goes under the contenental plate where its melted and destroyed . Magma rises through the cracks in the crusts called vents. The magma rises onto the surface where volcano is formed
5 of 10
How are earthquakes formed ?
Earthquakes occur at all 3 types of plate margins.Destructive margins - tension builds up when one plate gets stuck as its moving past the other.Constructive-tension builds along the cracks as they move away.Constructive-griidning past each other .
6 of 10
Name a few of the primary affects of earthquakes
Buildings and bridges collapse .People are injured and killed .Roads , railways and ports are damaged and destroyed . Electricity , gas , water and communication networks are damages , cutting of supplies .
7 of 10
Name a few of the secondary effects of earthquakes
Earthquakes can trigger landslides and tsunamis . People are left homeless and could die from weather conditions . Shortage of clean water and sanitation . Due to blocked roads and transport ,it is difficult to get aid to help those in need .
8 of 10
Name a few of the immediate responses of earthquakes
Rescue people trapped by collapsed buildings , and treat injured people . Recover dead bodies to prevent spread of disease. Provide temporary supplies of water and food.
9 of 10
Name a few long term responses of earthquakes
Re-house people who have lost their homes . Repair or rebuild damaged buildings , road and railways . Set up new building regulations so that they ore more resistant to hazards .
