Geography unit 1

?
how have global temperatures changed over time
The earth has been cooling down and heating up ever since it was formed
1 of 14
Define ice age
An ice age is a period of long term reduction in the earths temperature
2 of 14
Define global warming
Global warming refers to to the rising of the earths temperature
3 of 14
Explain the greenhouse effect
The suns rays reach the earths surface, and is reflected back to the atmosphere. Some heat escapes in to space but some is trapped by greenhouse gasses
4 of 14
What are the four greenhouse gasses
Nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, CFC, methane
5 of 14
Give two examples of methane
Farms, dumps
6 of 14
Give two examples of carbon dioxide
Deforestation, factories
7 of 14
Why are MEDCs the main contributors of greenhouse gasses
They have more money to use electricity, transport, etc.
8 of 14
Why are impacts of global warming greater felt in LEDCs
They don’t have the resources to defend themselves for the impacts
9 of 14
Give three examples of how we can reduce our carbon footprint
Turn of lights when not in use, don’t charge your phone overnight, take less baths
10 of 14
How are metamorphic rocks formed?
Metamorphic rocks occur due to intense heat or pressure, causing the rock to alter/change
11 of 14
How are sedimentary rocks formed?
Rock is broken down, material is eroded and removed by an agent of erosion. The material is eventually dropped at the bottom of a lake/river. Layers build upon one another, placing pressure on bottom layers. Dissolved minerals within the rock cement
12 of 14
continued
the rock together, and the rock is formed.
13 of 14
How are igneous rock formed
when magma (molten rock) comes up towards the surface. As it rises it cools, either above or below the surface. Extrusive igneous rocks form above the surface and intrusive igneous rocks form below the surface.
