?
Ecosystem
A community of plants and animals which interact with each other and their surrounding environment.
1 of 16
Biotic Components
A living thing, as an animal or plant, that influences or affects an ecosystem
2 of 16
Abiotic Components
A nonliving condition or thing, as climate or habitat, that influences or affects an ecosystem and the organisms in it
3 of 16
Habitat
The natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism.
4 of 16
Biome
A biome is a large region of Earth that has a certain climate and certain types of living things. (the largest ecosystems)
5 of 16
Producers
These species converrt energy from the environment (mainly sunlight) into energy (mainly glucose). e.g. plants
6 of 16
Consumers
Consumers are organisms of an ecological food chain which receive energy by consuming other organisms.
7 of 16
Decomposers
These species break down organic matter and return the nutrients to the soil. e.g. plants
8 of 16
Trophic Levels
The trophic level of an organism is the position it occupies in a food chain.
9 of 16
Food Chain
Shows the direct links between different species in a simple linear fashion.
10 of 16
Food Web
A more complex ecosystem heirarchy showing all the connections between the different species in an ecosystem.
11 of 16
Nutrient Cycle
The movement and exchange of organic and inorganic matter back into the production of living matter.
12 of 16
Biomass
The mass of living material at a stage in a food chain.
13 of 16
Litter
When plants drop leaves, twigs, and other material to the ground, it piles up.
