Aberfan (S Wales)= 1875 industrial coal mines opened, 1989 they closed and now a residential commuter village. Benidorm= 1950s industrial/market centre fishing village, 1970s turned into a tourist resort

What are the social reasons for the change in land use in urban areas
people are marrying later in life (1960s=24, 2010=30), a rise in the no of divorces meaning that families have two dwellings. Theres an ageing population increase+many people live on their own meaning more demand for younger generation

What are the political reasons for the change in land use in urban areas
need for more housing (sustainable communities policy=promises 3m houses by 2020), in SE certain areas are designated for growth (Ashford in Kent+Milton Keynes), In 2000 it was predicted that UK pop will rise by 4.1m between 2001-2021

What are the economic reasons for the change in land use in urban areas
people at a younger age can afford to buy/rent a house. 'Buy now&Pay later' lets people in their 20s have a rent+mortgages. Its encouraged companies to give 100% mortgages+no deposit (20 years ago, 10% was required).

large pool of workers willing to do low paid jobs (EG-Zaballeen who collect+recycle waste), purchasing power of a larger population allows economic growth and increase in manufacturing+retail sectors.
