What is a Primary effect?
The effects resulting directly from the event itself. e.g. buildings collapsing from an earthquake.

The effects that lead on from primary effects. e.g. mudflow caused by a volcano.

What is an Oceanic Plate?
A tectonic plate that is mostly covered in water.

What is a Continental Plate?
A tectonic plate that is mostly covered in land.

Describe the movement of a destructive boundary.
Plates move towards each other. A deep ocean trench forms as the ocean floor is pulled downwards- it starts to melt then forms magma.

Describe the movement of a constructive boundary.
The plates move away from each other.

Describe the movement of a conservative boundary.
The plates slide sideways past each other. The plates may lock together as they move.

What does inertia mean?
The tendency to keep things the way they are.

What does extraction mean?
To take something out.

What are the effects of the Japan Tsunami?
Liquefaction, 5 minutes of movement, 100 seconds to reach Tokyo.

What are the solutions of the Japan Tsunami?
Tokyo- 60 seconds of warning, automated warnings, detection system.

Explain what Mt St Helens is.
In the state of Washington. North of the rocky mountains. 3 or 4km away from a destructive plate boundry. Volcano that erupted on the 18th may 1980. (MEDC)

How is a tropical storm created?
Typhoon/cyclone- storm is created.

What is the eye of a Hurricane?
Clear space in hurricane- most powerful part.

How could global warming cause an increase in the number of Tropical Storms?
As there's more global warming the temperature of the sea increases. When it gets to 28 degrees a tropical storm occurs.
