Beach management
replaces beach/cliff material that has been removed by erosion or longshore drift, requires constant maintenance to replace the beach material as it is washed away.

areas of the coast are allowed to erode & flood naturally, this will be areas that are considered to be of low value, encourages the development of beaches & salt marshes.

Waves can approach the beach at an angle as of the direction of the prevailing wind, swash of the waves carries material up the beach at an angle, backwash then flows back to the sea in a straight line at 90degrees
