Hat are the two types of models and explain
the two types of models are the Hoyt(LEDC) and Burgess model (MEDC). The similarities between these models are that they both show land use, both show the further you go out of the CBD the cheaper the houses (in LEDC it's both cheaper+shanty)
1 of 19
What is urbanisation
Is the rise in percentage of people living in urban areas in comparison with rural area. Happens quicker in poor countries
2 of 19
What are the characteristics and uses of inner and outer suburbs
They have semi detached housing hence preferably4 families, easy to commute many transport links, less pollution+plenty of green space , pricing is moderate and nicer environment less vulnerable to crimes e.g pickpocket, quieter area.
3 of 19
What are characteristics of the rural fringe
Many used for retail areas and golf and Lesuire centre. Plenty of green space lots of accessiblitty routes preferable to elderly since its quotes. No pollution therfore less harm to env and detached housing fit for larger families. Cheap land.
4 of 19
What are the problems faced in LEDC Hoyt model
Land value is moderate and more accommodation and housing found in CBD, good quality housing since more vulnerable to mobbing or robbery as you go out of CBD, poorquality housing e.g slums in rural fring and ppl ar generallypoor and pollution high
5 of 19
What are the problems facing urban areas
Shortage of goodquality housing, run - down CBDs, ethnic segregation and traffic and congestion from cars
6 of 19
What are the characteristics and uses of inner city
Due to industries before there are terreced houses which means that there is less green space, since these industries have moved they have become run down area etc. However now these houses have become redevelop accomodate adults= more expensive +comm
7 of 19
Why do people migrate to urban area
Better quality housing, better resources and education, better services and healthcare, higher wages and job opportunities and good housing
8 of 19
Why do people leave rural areas
Lack of services, low pay, fewer opportunities, rural poverty flooding and droughts , war
9 of 19
Why are there more offices and apartments in CBD
since there is a competition for resources and land value is very high the4 smaller width but great height. it commercial and attracts tourists and where all transport routes meet ther4 accessible for commuters.
10 of 19
1 example of increasing housing
Relocation Incentives- Londonderry council encourage older people more elderly who live in a big house to move into elderly homes to accomodate larger familes
11 of 19
Another example of increasing housings do disadvantages
Build more housing in small areas- increase in flats or build on brownfield sitesDISADVoften unattractive near old factories which means it is difficult to get ppl to go and live there
12 of 19
Last example of increasing housing
Brand new town e.g Milton Keynes have been build to house over spilled population
13 of 19
What are traffic problems
Increased danger of accidents due to vehicles on the road, increased air and noise pollution which could cause health problems dueto2 co2which also damages building, congestion makes it late for commuters and wastes petrol discourages ppl to take car
14 of 19
Traffic solutions and example
Bus priority lanes, pedestrian zone , congestion charge, York park and ride
15 of 19
Bus Priority Lanes do what
= encourages more ppl to use it reducing the need for other cars and more reliable therfore less co2 released
16 of 19
Pedestrian zones
Remove traffic and noise pollution and makes it safer by reducing accidents and pollution and makes it more attractive to shop
17 of 19
Congestion Charge
Discourages car use more likely to use public transport, more profit means it could be used to invest in better transport
18 of 19
Example
York park and rise fewer cars in inner city so there's less congestion and pollution
