A single mutation is not enough to cause cancer
Cancer incidence is a function of age e.g colon cancer in women in England and Wales. The longer we live the more mutations we acquire due to uncorrected DNA repairs and damage. Cancer arrises from accumulation over time.
1 of 5
Time lag between exposure to mutagen and development of cancer
Smoking - post WWII large no. of men started smoking, 30 years later the incident increased sharply, delay due to accumulation.
2 of 5
Histopathy of intestinal epithelia
Cell population in constant flux (5 million cells die and are replaced). Analysis show a variety of tissue states in succession of error increasing abnormality. Ranging from normal crypts, small adenomatous crypt, abnormal morphology, metatasis
