Genetics STRENGTH- Gottesman and Shields (1996)
Compared MZ and DZ twins for Schizophrenia and found a concordance rate for MZ = 42% and DZ = 9%. There is a genetic component as MZ = higher than DZ, but MZ = not 100% so may be some environmental factors responsible.

Japan, found a 74% concordance for people with progressive chronic schizophrenia and 39% where twins had mild transient schizophrenia.

Compared adopted kids who had schizo mums with kids who had normal mums. He found that 10% of the adults who had schizophrenic mums developed schizophrenia and none of the other kids- suggesting a genetic factor in schizophrenia.
