Gene
Sequence of bases on DNA molecue that codes for protein, resulting in characteristics

Allele
Different version of gene. Two copies; one from each parent.

Genotype
The alleles a person has, e.g. BB, Bb, or bb for eye colour

Phenotype
The physical characteristics a person has, e.g. brown hair, blue eyes

Dominant
An allele whos characterisic appears in phenotype even with one copy

Recessive
An allele whose characteristics only appear in phenotype if two copies are present

Homozygote
An organism that carries two copies of same allele

Heterozygote
An organism that carries two different alleles

Carrier
If recessive allele cause disease, a carrier is someone who has one dominant and one recessive allele. They carry disease
