What are homeotic mutations?
Those that turn one body part into another
1 of 5
What did the homeobox help identify?
Hox genes in other organisms
2 of 5
What are maternal effect genes?
Those that are expressed in the mother and determine early pattens in the embryo
3 of 5
What are zygotic genes?
these are expressed in the zygote itself and serve to refine the developing body pattern
4 of 5
Why do cascades of gene expression and spatial expression patterns work?
As many of the genes involved are transcription factors so the gene products are DNA binding proteins that switch on the next gene in the cascade.
