Why are girls achieving more than boys?

Impacts of feminism.
Women are rejecting the traditional role of the housewife and are now more ambitious and assertive due to the freedom given by the feminist movement.

Girls' prioritizes have shifted, now more women worry about their careers then starting a family.

Changes in family.
There's been an increase in divorce and lone parent families, usually headed by women. This gives a strong female role model to a girl whereas boys lack the presence of a role model.

1970 equal pay act has allowed for more women to break through the glass ceiling and gain managerial and higher pay.

In the 70's girls aspirations were to be housewives. Now, women want independence and careers.

Boys are more likely to be harshly disciplined in comparison to girls. There is also gender labeling taught through the hidden curriculum.

High achieving girls are more attractive to a league table then boys. Good schools attract good girls.

Content in the curriculum was once sexist ( for example reading material). Sexist images have now been removed and helps girls' achievement as they see more positive images in regards to their gender.

Liberal Feminists:
Girls are achieving and we need to celebrate this. We need to continue the developments we are already doing in equal opportunity policy. We need more positive role models for women to help overcome sexist stereotypes.

Girls are achieving more but education is still patriarchal. Sexual harassment still continues and although they're are more female head teachers, we need more.
