1) base meals on starch. 2) eats lots of fruit and veg. 3) eat more fish 4) cut down on sat. fat & sugar 5) less salt 6) activity 7) plenty of water 8) don't skip breakfast.

high quantities of fats, sugars and salts and low amounts of non starch polysaccharide (dietary fibre)

What can an unhealthy diet lead to?
obesity, strokes, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, cancers, tooth decay, type 2 diabetes

Substances that perform different functions in the body

Gives the body energy

Helps the eyes see in dim light, healthy skin and tissue

Transfer and release of energy, formation of red blood cells

Non starch polysaccharide?
Part of food that is not digested. Helps bowels move regularly, and reduces constipation. Needed for digestive system to function, and lowers cholesterol level.

Lose weight, have an illness, certain foods make them ill

Dietary requirement values (DRV)?
Scientifically calculated estimates of the amounts of nutrients needed by different groups of people.

Reference Nutrient Intake (NRI)?
The amount of nutrient that is enough for most people in a group.

Estimated Average Requirement (EAR)?
The average need for a nutrient.

Rule enforced on health claim?
Came into effect in 2007 to help protect consumers from misleading claims

Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs)?
Guide to the amount of calories, sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt you should try not to exceed to have a healthy balanced diet
