GCSE physics 2 revision flashcards!

?
Name 3 sources of background radiation
cosmic rays, rocks, food
1 of 30
what increases a persons dose of radiation?
high altitudes, work underground, radiographers
2 of 30
whats radioactive decay?
its a totally random process, give off radiation from their nucleus
3 of 30
2 conditions needed for nucleur fusion
high temperature, high pressure
4 of 30
what does a curve and straight horizontal line show on a distance time graph?
curve- increasing acceleration straight horizontal line- stopped
5 of 30
how is a protostar formed?
gas and dust pulled in by gravitational forces
6 of 30
in what part of a big stars life cycle are heavier elements than iron made?
supernova explosion
7 of 30
why is nucleur fission a chain reaction?
as the bg nucleus is split 2 new smaller nucleus' are made it also emits 3 neutrons these go on to hitting other big nucleus and so on
8 of 30
what two forces balance each other out in a main sequence star?
inward=gravitational force outward= pressure
9 of 30
how does a star keep its energy for so long?
there is plenty of hydrogen around
10 of 30
in a parallel circuit what happens to voltage and current?
voltage=stays the same at every branch current=splits at every branch but then joins to form one big current again
11 of 30
in a series circuit what happens to voltage and current?
voltage=divides up current=stays the same
12 of 30
how can you test to see if a object is statically charged?
put it near small pieces of paper to see if they stick onto the object
13 of 30
whats meant by resultant force and what it measured in?
its all the forces which are acting on a object measured in N(newtons)
14 of 30
what 3 things does acceleration depend on?
how fast your going, are you stopping/starting, are you changing direction or not
15 of 30
what is acelleration?
it how quickly velocity is chaging
16 of 30
how do you measure the speed on a disctance time graph? how do you measure acceleration on a velocity time graph
for both you look at the gradient( underneath the graph)5
17 of 30
what 4 things is braking disctance affected by?
condition of tyers, condition of brakes, how fast you going, how good the grip is
18 of 30
what 2 things affect a drivers thinking distance?
alcohol, drugs, tiredness etc
19 of 30
name the two main opposing driving forces
air resistance and friction
20 of 30
whats meant by terminal velocity?
the maximum speed a object can fall when all its forces are balanced so as a result going at a steady speed
21 of 30
whats kinetic energy transferred?
work done
22 of 30
whats a closed system in regard to momentum
when the momentum before collision is same as momentum after a collision(conservation of momentum) no external forces
23 of 30
explain what happens as meteors /space shuttles enters earth
they enter at very high kinetic energy as they come into the atmosphere they collide with particles which causes them to loose some kinetic energy into heat energy due to friction with particles and as a result work is done
24 of 30
when a object is raised vertically what happens?
work is done again gravitational forces and the object gains gravitational potential energy
25 of 30
how does a fuse and earth wire work together to protect the wiring of ciruits?
when a fault occurs the big current flows through earth then a big current surges to earth which isolates the live wire from the device the big surge in current melts the fuse and so brakes the circuit
26 of 30
what are the colours of the live, neautral and earth wires?
live-brown neutral-blue earth-green and yellow
27 of 30
whats UK mains supply A.C or D.C whats the voltage? whats the frequency? whats the period?
its A.C voltage=230 V frequency= 50Hz period=0.02seconds
28 of 30
on a oscilloscope where does the neutral terminal stay and where does the live terminal stay?
neutral- close to zero live- alternated between positive and negetive
29 of 30
whats the most dangerous radition inside the body and why?
alpha because it has the most highest ionizing power

These are really good, i will try and do some for the next sciences, then we can just share it around! Very useful!!! Great for learning facts and key words! Thx!!!!  Just found the one with more on just now, was looking at ur shorter one before :)
