Accuracy
How close something is to the true value, but not precise.

Random errors
Caused by things we can't control. For example tiny temperature changes in a room.

Precision
How small a measurement is.

Systematic errors
Errors caused by inaccurate equipment.

Reliability
If someone repeats your measurements using their own equipment and the results are the same then your results are reliable.

Comparisons
Comparing your own result to another's to see if they are similar. If the patterns are the same then your results are reproducible.

Independant variable
Something you change to see what happens.

Dependant variable
Something that changes that you measure.

Fair test
A test in which only the independant variable is allowed to affect the dependant variable.

Validity
Your results are valid if you have carried out a fair test.

Control group
Sometimes in experiments results are compared to a control group. For example plants with fertiliser and compared to a control group of plants without fertiliser, to see the affect of the fertiliser.

Continuous variable
Results with any numerical value.

Categoric variable
Labels for categories. For example: Red, Brown, Black and Blonde.

Discrete variable
Results that can only be whole numbers.

An experiment you do before the real one, to see if you have the right method.
