What does the CV System consist of?
Heart, Blood, Blood Vessels
1 of 23
What are the functions of the CV System
Transport oxygen around body in the blood to the working muscles. Regulate body temperature. Fight infections.
2 of 23
What are the blood vessels.
Veins, arteries and capillaires
3 of 23
What is Stroke volume
The amount of blood pumped pumped out of the heart per beat
4 of 23
What is cardiac output
The amount of blood pumped out of the heart per minute
5 of 23
What is heart rate
The amount of times your heart beats per minute
6 of 23
What is blood pressure
The force caused by the blood on the walls of the blood vessles
7 of 23
What is systolic
The pressure when the heart is contracting
8 of 23
What is diastolic
The pressure when the heart is relaxing
9 of 23
What are the immediate/short term effects of exercise on the CV System
1)Heart rate increases- to supply more oxygen carried in blood the working muscles. 2) Blood pressure increases because your heart contacts more strongly to pump more blood around the body.
10 of 23
What are the long term effects of exercise on the CV System
1) Cardiac Hypertrophy 2)Stroke volume increases 3) Cardiac output increases 4) Resting heart rate decreases 5) Lower blood pressure 6) Arteries and veins get bigger and stretchier and also get stronger 6) Quicker recovery time after exercise
11 of 23
What is HDL?
High density lipoprotein-Good cholesterol-Helps get rid of excess cholesterol from body- Helps stop build up of cholesterol
12 of 23
What is LDL?
Low density lipoprotein- Bad cholesterol- Breaks up and sticks to artery walls and therefore clogs up arteries increasing chances of a heart attack.
13 of 23
What does drinking and drugs and smoking do to your blood pressure.
Drinking will increase your blood pressure and the more you drink the higher it gets. Smoking and nicotine cause a temporary rise in blood pressure. Also drugs will have an effect on your blood pressure.
14 of 23
What do we need to have in our diet because it is good for our cv system
Iron, it is found in red meat and leafy green veg. This is needed because the body needs iron to produce haemoglobin which transports oxygen to the working muscles.
15 of 23
What does the respiratory system consist of??
Lungs, air passages, diaphragm
16 of 23
In what order does air travel through the respiratory system
Nose, Trachea, Bronchi, Bronchioles, Alveoli
17 of 23
What happens in the Alveoli
It is where gas exchange happens. It is between the gases of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
18 of 23
What is vital capacity
The most air you can inhale and forcibly exhale in one breath
19 of 23
What is tidal volume
The amount of air you inhale in one normal breath
20 of 23
Immediate/short term effects of exercise on the respiratory system
1)Increase in breathing rate 2)Increase in breathing depth 3)Oxygen debt may be built up during anaerobic exercise. It is too get rid of the lactic acid. Oxygen debt is the oxygen that needs to be repaid once you have stopped doing anaerobic exercise
21 of 23
Long term effects of exercise on the respiratory system
1) Chest cavity becomes larger-this is because the muscles around your chest get stronger. 2)Vital capacity increases 3)Increase in number of capillaries around the alveoli.
22 of 23
Effects of smoking on the respiratory system.
1) It can lead to a lot of diseases such as bronchitis, lung cancer and emphysema. 2) Tar in cigarettes clog up alveoli making it harder for gas exchange to make place. 4) Nicotine causes the blood vessels in the lungs to tighten.
