Physical Activity can strengthen muscles, make muscles more flexible, lead to weight loss or being more toned. All of the Health Related Components of Exercise can be improved through physical activity.

It can lead to an increase in Serotonin production (the hormone that makes us feel good), and improved fitness and self esteem will make us feel good.

• How can physical activity relieve stress or tension?
A lot of things can stress us out in day to day life. Exercise cannot solve these problems, but it can provide a distraction and shift our focus from more negative things.

• How can physical activity increase self esteem/confidence?
A lot of physical activities come with a sense of challenge. Completing these challenges and succeeding can have an extremely positive effect on our self esteem and confidence.

Having increased physical fitness has been proven to have a positive effect on general health. One key example of this is the heart, the fitter your heart is, the less likely you are to have heart related medical concerns.

Some people take part in physical activity just because they enjoy it and have fun. The people playing in amateur competitions on the weekend may never be professionals, but they can still have fun.

Some sporting events provide a mental challenge, as well a physical challenge. This is linked to participants persevering and not quitting when it gets, hard.
