GCSE OCR Combined Science Biology 1 - Cells and Microscopy

?
What are prokaryotes?
They are simple cells such as bacteria. They are smaller than eukaryotes and do not cantain a nucleus. They stre genetic material in the form of a DNA loop, together with the rings of DNA called plasmids.
1 of 6
What is the function of a cell membrane?
It hold the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell by prviding a selective barrier. They also contain reseptor molecules that are used for cell communication.
2 of 6
Wht are eukaryaotes?
These are complex cells contains a cell membrane, cytoplasm and genetic material enclosed in a nucleus. They are found in animals plants, fungi and protists (eg. amoeba).
3 of 6
State two organelles present in plant cells tat are not present in animals cells and their functions.
Rigid cell wall: made up of cellulose, giving the cell support and Chloroplasts: where photosynthesis occurs as chlorophyl is located there.
4 of 6
What is the function of a nucleus?
Contains DNA (genetic material) in the form of chromosomes.
5 of 6
State the function of mitochondria.
These are the site of cellular respiraion and contain enzymes needed for reactions involved.
