Uses choreography from stage production There We have Been and sets it outdoors in a bleak landscape. Cousins worked from two starting points: narrative and emotional themes.

What is the stimulus of the work?
Love story with a twist. Portray a unique narrative, combining themes of love and loss, dependency and loyalty, longing and memory. Portray a story where, no matter what, they could never be together.

What is the choreographic intention of WHE?
To create a dance film that maintained the emotional intensity and visceral energy of the live stage performance of There We Have Been. Mood is very tender, emotional and somber.

What is the structure of WHE?
Prologue followed by 6 continuous section. Defined by changing of location, physicality and music reflecting developing relationship. One seamless journey.

What is the aural setting of WHE?
Composition created specifically for the work created by Seymour Milton in collaboration with Cousins. Music combines electronic elements with strings & piano making it haunting and emotive. Blends with choreography - flowing as one.

What are the costumes for WHE?
Stylised everyday clothes. Female wears beige shirt & skirt, male dancers wears khaki jumper and jeans (contrasting) Darkness of his costume links to earth/ lightness of her costume gives her a more ethereal and celestial feel.

What is the lighting in WHE?
Uses only natural light. Development from day to evening to night to show passage of time of relationship. Darker set towards end also adds to the intensity and intimacy of the final section.

What is the performance environment of WHE?
Site sensitive/ Dance for camera. After prologue camera starts far away - isolated from the world. Camera moves in closer but still keeps distance until first time dancers look at each other.
