What are pathogens?
Microorganisms that enter the body and cause disease.

How do bacteria make you feel ill?
They reproduce rapidly inside your body and produce toxins that damage your cells and tissues.

How do virus' make you feel ill?
They can reproduce rapidly inside your body and replicate themselves using the cells machinery to produce lots of copies of themselves. The cell will then burst from strain releasing all the new virus'.

What are protists?
Single cells eukaryotes. Some are parasites which live on/in organisms and can cause damage. Often transferred via a vector (something that carries disease)

How does fungi make you feel ill?
They have a body made up of hyphae which can grow and penetrate human skin and plant surfaces. These produce spores which spread to other plants and animals.

Give 3 ways that pathogens can be spread.
Water (cholera), air (infleunza), direct contact (athletes foot).
