Where is the nucleus located in a cell and what does it contain?
The nucleus is located in the centre of the cell (in the cytoplasm) and contains the DNA (coded information for the production of proteins.) for that cell.

They become coil up to become shorter and thicker. This makes them visible on a light microscope.

That the nucleus of a cell has a double membrane.

How large are mitochondria?
Mitochondria are around the same size as bacteria, and can therefore bee seen on a light microscope, although to see them in detail, an electron microscope is needed.

Mitochondria have a smooth outer membrane, which encases a folded inner membrane and matrix.

What do the mitochondria do?
Mitochondria provide energy, and this occurs due to aerobic respiration taking place.

Glucose + Oxygen → Carbon Dioxide + Water + (Energy)

What happens to the energy released in aerobic respiration?
The energy that is released during aerobic respiration is stored in molecules of ATP inside the cells.

What does ATP stand for and what does it do?
ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate, and it provides the cell with energy which is used for things such as muscle contraction (in animals), active transport (in plants) and building large or larger molecules from small ones (plants and animals).

What is the function of the cell wall?
The cell wall is there to provide support for the cell.

What is the cell wall made from?
The cell wall is made from cellulose, which consists of long straight bundles of cellulose molecules, which form microfibrils when they are laid side by side.
