What happens when a wave hits a boundary between one medium and anouther?
Some energy is reflected back into the first medium and the rest is transmitted through into the second medium.
1 of 14
How does a high optical density affect a wave?
It will travle more slowly.
2 of 14
What is the formula for refractive index?
Speed of light in a vacuum/speed of light in the material.
3 of 14
How do lenses change the curvature of wave fronts?
By refraction
4 of 14
What does the lense do to a wave front?
It add curvature.
5 of 14
What shape will the wave front be if an uncruved wave passes through a lense paralle to the lense axis?
There will a spherical curvature, centred on the focus point.
6 of 14
How does the lense curve the wave fronts?
By slowing the light travelling through the center of the lense for longer than the light at the edge.
7 of 14
What is the focal length?
The distance between the lense axis and the focal point
8 of 14
What happens to the wave front as the lense gets thicker?
It will curve more strongly.
9 of 14
What is the formula for working out the power of a lense?
Power(p)=1/Focal length(f)
10 of 14
What is the formula used to define curvature of a wave?
Curvature= 1/radius of curvature
11 of 14
How do you calculate curvature after?
Curvature after= Curvature before + curvature added by lense
12 of 14
What happens the wave front if the source is distant?
The wave front will be flat.
13 of 14
What is the formula for calculating linear magnification?
m=size of the image/size of the object
