Starch
Place sample in test tube, add Iodine, If positive the colour becomes blue-black and if negative stays orange-yellow.

Protein
Place sample in a test tube, add an equal amount of buret solution, Mix by swirling, If positive the colour becomes lilac however if negative there'll be no change.

Lipid
Crush the substance, add to test tube with ethanol, filter ethanol into another test tube with cold water, discard the solid residue, If positive a milky emulsion is produced however if negative there is no change.

Reducing sugars
Add substance to a test tube, add same volume of Benedict's solution, heat to 80c in a water bath, If positive blue to green to yellow to red however there's no change if negative.

Non reducing sugars
Add hydrochloric acid, heat in a water bath, cool the test tube and add sodium hydrogen carbonate, repeat Benedict's test, If positive, the same colour change will occur as with the Benedict's however if negative there is no change.
