?
where are ocean trenches found?
ONLY at destructive plate boundaries
1 of 15
where are fold mountains found?
destructive and collision (two continental plates collide together) plate boundaries
2 of 15
describe the location of ocean trenches (2 marks)
destructive plate boundaries (e.g. S.America and Nazca) often next to fold mountains
3 of 15
how are fold mountains formed?
Rivers carry sediment into a depression (geosyncline). Deposits in thick layers - millions of years = sedimentary rock. Pates move together and rock is forced upwards = synclines and antisynclines.
4 of 15
how are ocean trenches formed?
the point where an oceanic plate is sub-ducted underneath a continental plate at a destructive plate boundary

what are the problems with fold mountains?
Cold climate - avalanches. Steep relief. High altitude. Poor quality soil. Inaccessible.

Farming. Grazing cattle. Tourism. Dams (HEP's). Forestry. Mining.

the Yuncan project
