?
What did Alexander Fleming do?
In 1928, he found mould had developed accidentally on a set of culture dishes, growing bacteria. The mould created a bacteria-free circle. He wrote papers on bacteriology, immunology and chemotherapy. He was the first to discover penicilin.

What role did Howard Florey play in the development of penicillin?
He was a pharmacologist and pathologist who shared the Nobel prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1945, with Chain and Fleming, for his role in the development of penicillin. He carried out the first clinical trials of it. He made it useful and effective.

What role did Sir Ernst Boris Chain play in the development of penicillin?
He was a German biochemist. Also shared the prize with Fleming and Florey. Him and Florey revisited the work of Fleming. They went on to discover penicillin's therapeutic action and its chemical composition. He theorised the structure of penicillin.

How did the invention of Penicillin affect World War II?
Supplies were sent with the troops making the D-Day landings in June 1944. It was effective and was used to solve the wait time between wounded and treatment. The death toll decreased. It kept infections from spreading and troops would recover faster
