Flashcards for test

?
What 6 things are controlled by the body ?
Body Temperature, Water Content, Ion content, Blood sugar level, Amount of co2 in body and Urea in the body
1 of 12
What is the optimum temperature for enzymes to work?
37 degrees celcius
2 of 12
What is the bodys response when you're too hot?
Hairs lie flat. Sweat is produced to remove heat when evaporated. Blood vessels dilate so that blood flows closer to the surface so that heat can be transferred easier.
3 of 12
Why do we shiver?
Because this needs respiration which releases energy to warm the body.
4 of 12
What are excess amino acids converted to?
Fats and carbohydrates
5 of 12
Why does urea need to be removed?
It is poisonous
6 of 12
Where is urea made?
Liver
7 of 12
Where is urea filtered out and stored?
It is filtered out by the kidneys and stored briefly by the bladder.
8 of 12
Why is having excess ions bad?
It can upset the ion and water balance so too little or too much water is drawn into the cells via osmosis which can damage cells.
9 of 12
What ways is water lost from the body?
Urine. Sweat. In air we breathe out.
10 of 12
Why do we produce more urine on a cold day?
