Destructive waves
Destructive waves : they have a high frequency (10-14 per minute), they are high and steep and the backwash is more powerful than the swash and material is removed from the coast.

Wave cut platform
Most erosion at foot of ciff caused by wves, forms a wave cut notch, notch becomes unstable and collapses and a wave cut platform is the platform left behind as the cliff retreats.

Bay
Bays are easier to erode and is less resistant. bays have a gentle slop. An example is Clay.

Headlands
Headlands are harder to erode and are more resistamt. Headlands have steep sides and an example of this is Chalk.

Transportation
waves follow the direction of pervailing wind, they hit the coast at oblique angles(not a right angle), the swash carries material up the beach(the same direction of waves) and the backwash carries material down the beach.
