Council of Clermont by Urban II offering papal indulgence (Remissio Peccatorum)

Crusader armies arrive in Constantinople (NF,G&L,IN,SF) at different times signalling a need to work together for the rest of the campaign if they are to succeed.

May - June 18th 1097
Siege of Nicaea which establishes Council of Princes and makes the 8 princes work together to take the city, Kilij Arslan arrives too late (16th May = siege in full force) after being distracted at Malatya.

July 1097
Battle of Dorylaeum where Godfrey's contingent arrived on time to outnumber Kilij Arslan and defeat his army and shatter his reputation.

1097-1098
Baldwin and Tancred are in conflict with eachother as they both attempt to land grab on their way to Anitoch (Tarsus and Mamistra). Eventually Baldwin gave up and went East while Tancred carried on south. By 9th March Baldwin was leader of Edessa.

Siege of Antioch: Crusaders defeat Kerbogha's forces thanks to Bohemond's leadership (Lake of Antioch victoty Feb 1098 and negotiations June 1098) but no thanks to Stephen of Blois (loss of him and A's army) and the failed foraging campaign of 1097.

Siege of Jerusalem: Successful siege and consolidation at Battle of Ascalon (12th Aug) thanks to the princes dividing their efforts and esp. thanks to Godfrey's leadership and use of a range of strategies (siege tower at eastern wall)
