What is the process of the acrosome reaction
The acrosome in the head of the sperm swells and fuses with the sperm cell surface membrane and releases digestive enzymes which break down the zona pellucida of the ovum.

the zona pellucida thickens/hardens preventing any other further sperm to enter the egg (the cortical reaction)
