greater chance of living in poverty, children doing less well in education, children being more likely to become delinquent or to use drugs

negative effects are more the result of low income than than the lack of two parents. search in 2005 by nick spencer found that material deprivation was very largely responsible for the reduced life chances of children of lone parents .
