The rearing of a child or children, espeically the care, love and guidance given by a parent

Attachment is adaptive for children, it enhances their chance of survival. Talk about Lorenz and Harlow. A child is most attatched to their primary caregiver - attachment is innate.

Known for the 'Strange Situation'. Found that attachment waas universal - the efe tribe. Babies were breastfed by different women but were still attached the most to their mother.

Anthropologists say that parenting/attachment isn't universal. Child rearing is a specific cultural practice, all cultures do it differently. They also say that there is different cultural definitions of who is classed a parent: adoption, fosterage
