What were the secret telegrams?
Truman and Stalin were both concerned that the breakdown of the grand alliance meant the threat of a new war. So they both wanted secret reports to know of their opponent's actions and thoughts.

What was in the Long telegram?
Stalin had given a speech calling for the destruction of capitalism. There would be no peace with the ussr while it was opposed to capitalism. The ussr was building up it's military power.

America wanted to dominate the world. Following Roosevelt's death the American government was no longer interested in working with the USSR. The American public was being prepared for war with the USSR

What were the first two points of the truman doctrine?
The world had a choice between communist tyranny and democratic freedom. America had a responsibility to fight for liberty wherever in the world it was threatened.

What were the second two points of the Truman doctrine?
America would send troops and economic resources to help governments that were threatened by Communists. Communism should not be allowed to grow and gain territory.

Why was the Truman doctrine developed?
Although the American military had assessed that the USSR were in no position to fight another war(weak army), it was believed that Stalin would try to encourage communism in countries devastated by the war(Italy, France, Greece, Turkey & GB)

What was the significance of the Truman Doctrine?
It was the opposite to the isolationism, when in the 1930s when America had determinedly stayed out of international affairs. It divided the world into capitalism and communism&stated their opposition. Marked start of cold war&end of grand alliance.

What was the marshall plan?
$13 billion were committed to rebuild the devastated economies of Europe, to discourage communism and also to help the American economy as in order to qualify for the money the European countries had to agree to trade freely with America .

What and when was the Paris conference?
European countries met at the Paris conference of 1948 to discuss the American offer and Marchall aid (Most of whom accepted-16 countries including Britain and France)

What was the reaction of delegates from the USSR?
They walked out of the conference and accused america of dividing europe into 2 'camps'.

What did USSR say about the Marshall aid?
They said that the marshall Aid was the first step in forging a military alliance before waging war on the soviet union. Stalin even wanted all eastern european countries under his sphere of influence not to accept America's help.
