Give five factors that could affect the rate of reaction?
Concentration of reactants, temperature, intensity of radiation (if used), particle size and catalyst
1 of 6
Briefly describe what is meant by the collision theory?
Reactions occur when particles of reactants collide, provided they collide with a certain minimum kinetic energy. Particles will collide more often if there is more of them in a given volume. Existing bonds stretch & break and new bonds form.
2 of 6
What is an entropy profile?
When a plot is drawn of reaction progress against enthalpy.
3 of 6
At higher temperatures...?
A much larger proportion of colliding pairs have enough energy to react.
4 of 6
Define activation enthalpy?
The minimum kinetic energy required by a pair of colliding particles before a reaction will occur.
5 of 6
What does the highest point on the enthalpy profile represent?
An arrangement of atoms where old bonds are stretched and new ones begin to form.
