People with disabilities can participate in a variety of activities. Resources and opportunities for the disabled are increasing but more availability is needed at a local level for athletes with disabilities

Cultural - Age
A sport can be reflected as being for a certain age group - the types of sport you participate in will be different during stages in your life depending on how physically able you are

Cultural - Gender
There are now more opportunities for women to access as many sports as men do and more women are becoming officials and obtaining management roles

Cultural - Race and Background
Ethnic background can be a factor. In some cultures women are not encouraged to take part in sport/PE on religious grounds. This may be due to contraints on what they are required to wear / where the activity takes place / nature of the activity.

Health and Wellbeing - Illness
If you are ill, you may not be able to participate in sport/physical activities. Your health can affect participation e.g. if you have asthma you may not participate in activities that involve a lot of running

Socioeconomic - Cost
Some activities can cost a large amount - this may be for equipment, training fees, membership, travelling distances, competitions etc. This can influence the sports/activities available to you.

Socioeconomic - Status
This links to a person's current situation or position in society. It may affect participation due to time available to participate. It can also influence the type of sport is involved in or enjoys to watch.
