Inherited influences
Genetic inheritance - control chemical reactions, what diseases we are susceptible to and our metabolism.

Cystic fibrosis
Caused by a faulty gene, resulting in the body to produce sticky, thick mucus which clogs up the tubes in the lungs. It affects life expectancy, ability to do sports and reduced growth rate. Schooling and social interaction is disturbed.

Socio-economic influences (wider society) Primary socialisation
Family- where an individual goes through primary socialisation of a series of lessons of the values and the norms of the society and the culture of the family. The bond between the child and man carer is vital to the well-being of the child.

Opportunity to learn to allow employment leading to consistent income. Exposure to the history of the society can change attitudes and opinions. Environmental and genetic factors affect education as well as gender, race and social class.

Housing
Rural area - limited health services, but access to environment that enhance learning. Urban area - cause social deprivation due to being exposed to crime, but could provide more activities. Housing - flat/house, cold, damp causing chest infection.

Culture
The rules, traditions and organisations of a society. Good cultural attitude can be used as to help with shared thinking. Open society - accept other cultures / Closed society - rejects other culture.

Access to health services and Nutrition

Income differences
The strata system distinguishes people from more to less important. The person's occupation is used to assess the importance of people. Belonging to a social stratum system affects life chances and opportunities.

Environmental influences - Water pollution
Water-borne infectious diseases include - hepatitis, cholera. Exposure to these infectious diseases can cause diarrhoea, skin irritation and typhiod.

Environmental influences - Air pollution
Asthma, irritation to eyes, bronchitis, pneumonia and other respiratory problems. This can lead to poor health, low self-esteem, social isolation and depression.

Environmental influences - Housing conditions/location
This is related to income. Shortage of affordable decent housing lead to material deprivation. Poor accommodation leads to poor heath. Damp cold housing can cause asthma, respiratory problems and depression.

Environmental influences - Flooding
Homes need to be structurally safe. Worrying about being flooded can cause anxiety and stress. If house is flooded, possessions be damaged or lost, occupants may have to find temporary accommodation.

Environmental influences - Hygiene
Adequate washing facilities to meet personal hygiene standards. Limited hot water supply, laundry wash, washing machine too expensive to run, limited facilities to store food hygienically.

Psychological influences
Low/high self concept, self awareness. *age, *body shape, *gender, *appearance.

Psychological influences - children
Children compare themselves to others to evaluate features. Child's self concept may be affected by abilities to compare with others. Adolescents showed that pupils who performed well at school became the leaders of clubs and had high self-concept.
